Build your own…

This is my favourite way to eat hands down for a couple reasons.

- It allows you to use up the last of things and fruits and veggies that might be on their way out.
- It allows everyone to put together what they like, the kids are more excited about the meal because they have some control over what they eat. So for this one dinner - I don’t have to listen to: I don’t like peppers, tomatoes are gross, I don’t want meat, etc…
- It’s fun, we all come up with unique combinations and are engaging with one another throughout the meal
- It’s SO quick and SO simple. I don’t have to think about anything really - just cook a protein and slap the other shit on a platter, IMO it’s one of the best #dinnertimehacks

The garlic sauce, sweet sauce, pickled cabbage and Persian bread I got from @shaganappimarket are amazing (well worth a trip).

I have 100% lost my creative mojo for meals at hom

I have 100% lost my creative mojo for meals at home.   It happens, it will come back - but man is it a chore right now.   So tonight’s dinner was a throw together that turned out to be pretty fantastic.  I grabbed some basmati rice and cooked it in coconut cream, then I sautéed some veg (literally what I found in my fridge, half of which my kids don’t like - but too bad). Added some shrimp (we always have shrimp in our freezer), coconut cream and some aromatic spices and away we go.

It was delicious. The kids pretty much stared at it, pushed it away and just ate their fruit. You win some, you lose some. They were pretty excited for watermelon because they haven’t had it really since summer - because it either hasn’t been available or it’s been too expensive, and we only buy fruit on sale now, thank-you Canada!  If you want to know how to throw this together, comment recipe and I’ll send what I did to your inbox.

Dinner is served 😂.

Listen I like to cook and I’m pretty damn good at it, but there are still days where I stare in the fridge and think why the fuck do I have to cook another meal. And on those days you get things like this or takeout 🤷‍♀️. I’m human, what can I say.

The only reason we didn’t get takeout is because I was so indecisive it would have taken half an hour to figure what we wanted and then another hour to get it, so chicken salad sandwiches it is!

The sandwich was actually great! The dinner as a whole was kinda meh 🫤. But it’s good enough, homemade…ish - thanks @ikea and good to go in like 15 minutes.

For the record, my kids did not like this dinner at all. They ate their cucumbers, honeydew, part of the potato pancake, some sauce (which I call a win because it’s basically plain greek yogurt with some spice), the bread from the sandwich and like one bite of the chicken salad. Which btw my daughter told me was “too sweet”. Pretty rich coming from someone who asks me for candy every day 🙄.

Dinner in about 30 min - just the way we like it!

Sundays are a great night to make use of leftovers from the week. We didn’t have much but we had chicken and ham that needed to be eaten, plus a couple veggies that were on their way out.

This one was super simple, just sautéed some onions and garlic, added in some mushrooms, diced ham, and leftover chicken. Spiced it with dried basil, kosher salt and black pepper. Then added in some fresh spinach. Used a store bought Alfredo sauce (Clint bought it by accident) and it was disgusting 🤮. But I’m pretty good at fixing things, so I added a bit of tomato & basil sauce we had from a previous dinner, some more pepper and a bit of the pasta water. Threw in our spaghetti noodles and dinner was done. We added a salad that I was trialing for work and some garlic toast plus other fruit and veggies for the kids.

PSA - store bought cream sauce is a DO NOT recommend. Absolutely one of the grossest things I’ve ever tasted. But it was here and I hate wasting, so I made it work. But never again.

The kids ate this one up - mushrooms, onions , spinach and all!
